Biography
Dr. Jill K. Burk is an associate teaching professor and program chair of the Communication Arts and Sciences program at Penn State Berks. Burk studies questions of human communication as practiced in the public discourse of everyday life. Currently, her primary research interests include the relationship between rhetoric and civic engagement; communication pedagogy; and the impact of technology on the human condition. She is the past editor of the Undergraduate Journal of Service Learning & Community-Based Research. She also served as president of the Pennsylvania Communication Association in 2020 and 2021. Before entering academia, she worked in corporate communication and public relations. Burk teaches courses in rhetorical theory, communication ethics, community and civic engagement, organizational communication, and public speaking. Additionally, Burk coordinates the civic and community engagement minor.
